What Goes into Online Presence for Your Business

So you’ve decided to start your own business and now you want to create and develop your online presence. Where do you start?

The most important element of the online presence of your business is your website. Your website should be responsive and mobile friendly. Planning the content is a big part of creating your website:

  • What is the name of your business?

  • What is the tagline? (A tagline is a catchphrase or slogan that captures a visitor’s interest and should encourage them to learn more about your business.)

  • What is your domain going to be? (Come up with at least 3 or 4 options.)

  • What is the purpose of your website?

  • Who is your target audience?

  • What do you want your website to look like?

  • What is the layout for the content? What images and videos will be included?

  • What products and services will you offer that are appealing to your target audience and are what they are looking for?

First set the goals for your website. For example:

Your website will include your business information, what products or services your business provides, benefits to clients or customers, and a call to action to contact you and buy your product or service

Should your website include a blog page? Having blog page provides you a fantastic opportunity to share your knowledge, expertise, give advice and recommendations and introduce new products and services to your client. You can help people in so many ways. Definitely include a blog page.

Your website provides a way to connect with potential customers or clients and potentially provide potential leads which will convert to actual sales.

Ultimately the goal of your website is to generate leads which will convert to sales, build your clientele and generate revenues.

Purpose of Pages

Home Page: tells visitors what you do and why they should trust you. The home page tells visitors what your company’s main objective is and briefly highlights how the products and services are helpful. The header includes the name of your business and a tagline and may also include your phone number and email address.

About Page: Gives a more in-depth description of what your company does, who you are, why you do what you do and what makes you and your company so special. This is where you can impress visitors to your website.

Contact Page: Tell how people can reach you (phone number, email address) and where you are located. Include a map with directions to your business.

Should You Have a Blog?

Why would you not want to have a Blog page? You have the expertise, experience, skills, knowledge, advice, suggestions, and recommendations to share. This not only identifies you as an expert but builds the trust of visitors to your website. Always post new blogs to keep people coming back to your site and ultimately becoming a customer or client. You can also introduce and write about new products and services and new trends in your specialty.

Email List Building and Marketing

There are several different email list building platforms that be integrated with your website: Aweber, MailChimp, ConvertKit, ConstantContact, Infusionsoft are just a few. A sign-up form can be created in an email platform for special offers, newsletters, product updates, and webinars. Some of these email services are free. For example, you can have a free account with MailChimp that allows up to 2,000 contacts before there is a fee. As visitors to your website sign up for your email list, you don’t have to wait for them to come to you. Email marketing is one of the best ways to generate sales.

Social Media

As we are all aware, the most popular online social media networks are FaceBook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. However, you aren’t limited only to creating an account on these networks. Google has a network called Google +. There is also Tumblr, Hootsuite, and more – the list keeps growing all the time as new trends develop. Also, look for specialization focused professional network groups.

Social Media helps you connect with and contact other members in your professional community and your target audience.

Many social media networks have branched out to offer more ways for you to promote your business, get leads that ultimately convert to sales. For example, businesses can create a FaceBook page and ads. On LinkedIn, create your profile, talk about your experience, specialties, accomplishments, and education. SlideShare is also a great tool to use to promote your business and is owned by LinkedIn. Twitter also has an advertising platform.
